What is your highest calling for today?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 02, 2008:
I'm a day late with this one, I think... my highest calling for Sat was to be with my mom and spend time with her for her birthday since I couldn't be there on Tuesday with her. My highest calling was to remind her of her strength as she gets ready to fly out West to see her mother who is in the mid stages of dementia and will spend a week visiting with her as she's in a nursing home trying to get rehab before going back to her assisted living. My hope and aspiration was to remind my mom that she was a great daughter because she gave me so much love and showed me so much compassion that she never got from her mom.
I appreciated that we could talk frankly about what will happen when my grandmother dies, as we have about our own deaths... I guess with losing so many people in our lives, particularly my brother, we are lucky to not have the taboo of not saying the "d" word.
I hope that in my work, I can help foster other families to have honest, compassionate conversations about the end of their lives with their families, long before the conversations need to take place.
And my highest purpose for the day was to just enjoy being in the presence of my mother and father that have given me more love and more wisdom than they will ever realize!
Namaste,
Jen
